Professional actor headshots are extremely important. You don’t want risk annoying your agent with bad actor headshots that don’t look like you. Agents might be frustrated if you send out that younger looking photograph. So, make sure you get the best actor headshots you can afford.
Standard Industry Professional actor headshots
Standard Industry professional actor headshots are required for Spotlight, CastCall pro, and other submissions. It can be in standard landscape or 10×8 portrait. What is important is that your prof actor headshots are how your theatrical agency sell you to future employers.
On a budget
I appreciate that some actors might be on a budget or they simply do not have the funds to pay for a professional headshot photographer. Sadly, going the “selfie” route really isn’t going to work, and asking an actor friend to snap away on their new second hand eBay camera simply won’t give you the desired results that you and your agent are going to need to sell you for that next role. It’s always worth looking for a photographer that is willing to shoot a shared drama student session. Personally speaking, if this is your first headshot session I would always opt for the personal one to one shoot. It’s your career and you need to be ready to rock and roll and be ahead of your colleagues when you leave drama school.
A professional photographer that knows the entertainment industry and understands how your actor’s headshots should look will be the best advice. No point in getting a wedding photographer to shoot with you. They simply don’t know what casting directors and agents are looking for.
As top casting director agent, Di Carling says “Professional headshots for actors are possibly the most important investment an actor can make”.
